Home For The First Time
It is the first day at home with your new puppy. Everyone is excited to interact with the new family member. This is great. Just remember, that too much activity, in the beginning, can prove to be a bit much on your new pup.
In most cases, your new puppy has just left its litter mates. It has just left, to its knowledge and experience, comfortable surroundings. Now, your puppy may be a little anxious due to the new surroundings, new people and new smells.
Typically, there is a person who picks out the puppy. That person, most of the time, is who the puppy may try to bond with. So, whomever is the planned care-giver for the dog should be there to receive the dog.
Dogs rely heavily on sense of smell. If your puppy has bonded to someone in the family on the first day, it is suggested that you give the puppy something of that person's, so that their smell may ease any anxiety for the puppy, especially on the first couple of nights.
