Busy Rottie's Puppy Steps...

Wearing A Collar & Leash
The collar and leash are your best tools when working with your dog. Of course, your dog does not immediately agree. That is okay. It is his / her nature. These items are asking them to be slightly submissive and give up some freedoms. So they will on most occassions resist.

Positive re-enforcement is what we focus on at Busy Rottie. Simply put, we believe in giving the dog something positive to remember when dealing with the collar and leash. The graphic associated with this article is of a 7 week old Rottweiler female puppy. She is enjoying the day with her owner and not focused on the red collar around her neck. She has received positive re-enforcement.

The collar should be a routine for the dog. It offers control for you. It offers identification and return information for them. It is an extension for having fun and a little adventure. It is what connects the leash. And when the dog sees the leash, it should associate fun and a little adventure ~ well, he or she should recognize ...we are going somewhere outside the house... when they see or sense the leash. It indicates positive re-enforcement.
