Health Tip #1
Fresh Water
Water for drinking is a very important part of your dog’s daily requirements and overall nutrition. Water is the main component of healthy, living cells of the body. Without water, your dog’s body will not be able to function properly.
Make sure that your dog always has enough water to keep him or her healthy. You can provide clean, clear water regularly that is easily accessible to your pet. Keep your dog’s bowl filled at all times and always refill with fresh, clean water.
If you are concerned that your dog is not getting enough water to maintain health, talk to your veterinarian for advice. Maintaining proper hydration is too important to your dog’s health to ignore.
Health Tip #2
Over Feeding
Over feeding a puppy is a common occurence. Offering a sufficient amount may be a bit difficult, if you are just starting out and not familiar with proper feeding techniques. A smart rule that is used is feed the puppy with no more food than with what would fit in the puppy's head.
(The amount of food should not be more than the puppies actual skull.) Remember when a puppy eats too much and exercises too little, he or she is likely to become overweight.
Set a feeding schedule. Instead of putting out food every time the food bowl goes empty, feed your puppy only at set times. This might include setting out a small bowl of food in the morning before you leave for work or school and another small bowl when you return home at dinner time. This will allow your puppy to adjust to the schedule and you will have greater control over how much he or she eats in a day.
Watch out for boredom! Reduce boredom in your puppy's daily life. Stress and boredom can increase the likelihood of some puppies to overeat. Play with your puppy on a daily basis to give him or her adequate attention and exercise.
